 Biblical Prophecies: When Evil Plots Return Upon the Plotter

Prophecies fulfilling in our day included.

Throughout Scripture a consistent principle appears:
Those who plot evil and destruction ultimately fall into their own traps.

This pattern is repeated in the Psalms, the Wisdom writings, historical accounts, and the Prophets.

Foundational Passages

Psalm 7:14–16

Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood.
He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has fallen into the hole which he made.
His trouble will return upon his own head,
And his violence will descend upon his own skull.

Psalm 9:15–16

The nations have sunk down in the pit which they have made;
In the net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
Yahweh has made Himself known; He has executed judgment.
In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared.

Psalm 35:7–8

For without cause they hid their net for me;
Without cause they dug a pit for my soul.
Let destruction come upon him unawares,
And let the net which he hid catch himself.

Proverbs 26:27

He who digs a pit will fall into it,
And he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.

Obadiah 1:15

As you have done, it will be done to you.
Your dealings will return on your own head.

Historical Example of the Principle

Esther 7:10

A plot against the Jewish people was reversed upon the one who planned it.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai.

The instrument of destruction became the instrument of judgment.

Prophetic Passages Concerning Nations Rising Against Israel

Psalm 83:3–5

They make shrewd plans against Your people
And conspire together against Your treasured ones.
They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
That the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

Joel 3:1–2

I will gather all the nations
And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
Then I will enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel.

Zechariah 12:2–3

Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around.
And it will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples;
all who lift it will be severely injured.

Zechariah 14:2–3

For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle…
Then Yahweh will go forth and fight against those nations.

Ezekiel 38:10–12

Concerning the coalition that comes against Israel:

You will say, “I will go up against the land of unwalled villages…
to capture spoil and seize plunder.”

Ezekiel 38:22

With pestilence and with blood I will enter into judgment with him;
and I will rain on him and on his troops… torrents of rain, hailstones, fire and brimstone.

Additional Prophetic Witness

Isaiah 8:9–10

Be broken, O peoples, and be shattered;
Give ear, all remote places of the earth.
Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted;
State a proposal, but it will not stand.

Isaiah 54:17

No weapon that is formed against you will succeed;
And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.

Jeremiah 30:16

Therefore all who devour you will be devoured;
And all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity.

Daniel 2:44

The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed…
and it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms.

The Consistent Biblical Pattern

Across Scripture the same sequence appears repeatedly:

• The wicked plan destruction
• A trap is set in secret
• Nations conspire together
• God exposes the scheme
• Judgment falls upon those who devised it

The plans intended for destruction ultimately return upon the plotters themselves.

Summary Verse

“As you have done, it will be done to you;
your dealings will return on your own head.”

— Obadiah 1:15
