The Truth Is Beyond Color, Race, and Human Distinction

The truth of Yahweh God is beyond all color, beyond all race, beyond nationality, and beyond the eloquence of men.

Yahweh God is no respecter of persons. He does not judge according to outward appearance, ancestry, social standing, or the traditions by which men divide themselves. He looks upon the heart and receives those who fear Him and work righteousness.

Acts 10:34–35
“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.”

The calling of God in Christ was never intended to exalt one race over another. Yet neither may the appointed place of Israel in Yahweh’s purpose be erased, denied, or attributed to the inventions of men.

Yahweh formed Israel as a nation for His name, entrusted that nation with His covenants and revealed Word, and caused the promised Messiah to come through Israel according to the flesh. Through that promised Seed, Christ, the blessing was appointed to reach all the families and nations of the earth.

Genesis 22:18
“And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”

Galatians 3:8
“And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.”

Israel Was a Nation Formed by Yahweh God

Before considering the extension of God’s grace to the nations, an essential truth must first be established:

Israel was itself a nation formed by Yahweh God.

Israel did not create itself.

Israel did not choose itself.

Israel did not devise its own covenant standing.

No human ruler, political movement, military alliance, or religious institution brought biblical Israel into existence. Yahweh called Abraham when there was yet no nation, brought forth a people from him, redeemed Abraham’s descendants from slavery, entered into covenant with them, and formed them into a nation for His own name and purpose.

When Yahweh first called Abraham, Abraham possessed neither the promised land nor the promised offspring through whom the nation would come.

Genesis 12:1–3
“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

The nation did not yet exist. Yahweh declared beforehand:

“I will make of thee a great nation.”

Its formation was therefore the work and purpose of God, not the invention of man.

Yahweh Called One Man and Multiplied Him

Abraham was only one man when Yahweh called him, and Sarah was barren. Yet Yahweh promised that from them would come the people through whom His covenant purpose would proceed.

Isaiah 51:1–2
“Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.”

Yahweh called Abraham alone, blessed him, and increased him. Israel was thus hewn from the purpose and power of God, beginning with one called man and a woman naturally unable to bear the promised child.

Genesis 18:11–14
“Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Hebrews 11:11–12
“Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.”

Israel sprang from one man described as “as good as dead.”

The nation’s beginning therefore bore witness not to human strength, natural possibility, or national self-determination, but to the faithfulness and power of Yahweh God.

A Few People Went Down Into Egypt

The Scriptures repeatedly remind Israel that it did not begin as a great and powerful people. The family of Jacob went down into Egypt few in number.

Deuteronomy 10:22
“Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.”

Deuteronomy 26:5
“And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous.”

Jacob entered Egypt with only a small household. It was Yahweh who preserved them, multiplied them, and caused them to become a numerous people.

Even then, Israel did not free itself. The people had become enslaved and were powerless under Pharaoh. Yahweh Himself intervened to redeem them.

Exodus 3:7–8
“And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.”

Exodus 6:6–7
“Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God.”

The repeated declaration is unmistakable:

“I will bring you out.”

“I will redeem you.”

“I will take you to me for a people.”

Israel became Yahweh’s covenant nation because Yahweh acted to deliver, redeem, gather, and establish them.

Yahweh Created, Made, and Established Israel

Moses declared that Yahweh was Israel’s Father in the national and covenant sense—the One who brought the nation into being, made it, and established it.

Deuteronomy 32:6
“Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?”

Israel’s national existence was therefore not self-produced. Yahweh had made and established the people.

Isaiah 43:1
“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”

Isaiah 43:15
“I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.”

Isaiah 44:1–2
“Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.”

The language could hardly be stronger:

Yahweh created Jacob.

Yahweh formed Israel.

Yahweh made the nation.

Yahweh redeemed the people.

Yahweh called them by name and declared:

“Thou art mine.”

Yahweh Took Israel Out From Among the Nations

Israel was not merely one nation among many that independently decided to adopt Yahweh. Yahweh took them out from among the nations and separated them for His purpose.

Deuteronomy 4:20
“But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.”

Leviticus 20:24
“But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.”

Leviticus 20:26
“And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.”

Psalm 135:4
“For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.”

This separation was not permission for racial pride, personal boasting, or contempt toward other peoples. It was a divine appointment carrying responsibility, discipline, service, and covenant obligation.

Israel Did Not Choose Yahweh First

The Scriptures do not present Israel as a nation that first sought out Yahweh and then persuaded Him to become its God.

Yahweh chose, loved, redeemed, and covenanted with Israel according to His own faithfulness and purpose.

Deuteronomy 7:6–8
“For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”

Israel could not truthfully claim that its own size, strength, righteousness, superiority, or ingenuity caused Yahweh to choose it. The people were the fewest, enslaved, and helpless.

Yahweh acted because of His love and because He was faithful to the oath sworn to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Deuteronomy 9:4–6
“Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness.”

Thus neither ancient nor modern man may truthfully claim that Israel’s covenant origin was the product of Israel’s own devising.

It was Yahweh’s oath.

Yahweh’s choice.

Yahweh’s redemption.

Yahweh’s formation.

Yahweh’s covenant purpose.

Yahweh Formed Israel to Be His Covenant Nation

At Sinai, Yahweh declared what He had done and what He intended Israel to become.

Exodus 19:3–6
“And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.”

Yahweh did not say that Israel had brought itself to Him. He declared:

“I bare you on eagles’ wings.”

“I brought you unto myself.”

Israel’s identity as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation arose from Yahweh’s redemption and covenant, not from human political invention.

Deuteronomy 14:2
“For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.”

Deuteronomy 32:9
“For the LORD’S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.”

Yahweh Made Israel His Own People

David recognized that no other nation had been redeemed and established in the same manner.

2 Samuel 7:23–24
“And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD YAHWEH, art become their God.”

This passage establishes several truths together:

Yahweh went forth to redeem a people for Himself.

Yahweh acted to make Himself a name.

Yahweh confirmed Israel to Himself as His people.

Israel’s national and covenant identity therefore rests solely upon the act and declaration of God.

1 Chronicles 17:21–22
“And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD YAHWEH, becamest their God.”

A People Formed for Yahweh’s Praise

Yahweh expressly stated the purpose for which He formed Israel.

Isaiah 43:7
“Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Isaiah 43:21
“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

Israel was formed for Yahweh Himself—to bear witness to His name, His law, His faithfulness, His judgments, His mercy, and His redemptive purpose.

Psalm 102:18
“This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.”

Psalm 100:3
“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

The words “not we ourselves” remove all ground for national self-glory. Whatever Israel possessed in covenant standing came from Yahweh God.

Israel Was Joined to Yahweh for a People and for a Name

The prophet Jeremiah declared that Yahweh had caused Israel to cleave unto Him so that the nation might be His people and bring honor to His name.

Jeremiah 13:11
“For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory.”

Again, the action belongs to Yahweh:

“I caused [them] to cleave unto me.”

The nation was intended to be:

“unto me for a people,”

“for a name,”

“for a praise,”

and “for a glory.”

Israel’s calling was not merely for its own benefit. Israel was appointed to bear Yahweh’s name and to serve within His purpose of bringing blessing to the nations.

Israel Was Entrusted With the Word and Promises of God

Yahweh’s formation of Israel also included entrusting the nation with His revealed Word, covenant service, and promises.

Deuteronomy 4:7–8
“For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?”

Psalm 147:19–20
“He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.”

Romans 3:1–2
“What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.”

Romans 9:4–5
“Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.”

This special entrustment did not mean that every individual Israelite would automatically be faithful. Nor did it give Israel permission to boast over other nations.

It established that Yahweh had chosen Israel as the national vessel through which His covenants, His written revelation, and ultimately the promised Messiah would come.

Yahweh Alone Defines Israel’s Calling

Because Yahweh formed the nation, redeemed it, named it, covenanted with it, disciplined it, preserved it, and assigned its purpose, no man or nation has the authority to rewrite Israel’s origin as though it were merely a human fabrication.

Human beings may debate governments, rulers, borders, conduct, and policy. Every nation and every ruler remains accountable to righteousness and justice.

Yet no truthful reading of Scripture can deny that biblical Israel originated in the sovereign purpose and action of Yahweh God.

Amos 3:1–2
“Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”

Israel’s election never placed the nation beyond correction. Indeed, greater privilege brought greater responsibility and judgment.

Yet even Israel’s chastening demonstrates that the nation stood in a unique covenant relationship established by Yahweh.

Isaiah 46:3–4
“Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”

The Maker retains authority over that which He has made.

The One who formed Israel retains authority to judge, preserve, correct, restore, and fulfill His declared purpose concerning Israel.

Israel’s Calling Was Never a Ground for Racial Pride

The divine formation of Israel must not be twisted into racial boasting or contempt toward other peoples. Israel was not chosen because of numerical greatness, natural superiority, or self-righteousness.

Israel was chosen according to Yahweh’s love, oath, grace, and purpose.

The same Scriptures that establish Israel’s unique national calling also declare that Yahweh intended blessing to extend through Abraham’s Seed to all the families of the earth.

Genesis 22:18
“And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”

Israel was formed by Yahweh as a nation for His name, His witness, and His covenant purpose. Through Israel came the fathers, the Scriptures, the promises, and—according to the flesh—the Christ.

Therefore, acknowledging Israel’s divine formation does not oppose God’s love for the nations. It establishes the appointed channel through which Yahweh caused His revealed purpose and saving truth to proceed.

No one may honestly claim that Israel’s biblical identity was invented by Israel itself.

Yahweh called Abraham.

Yahweh gave the promise.

Yahweh brought forth Isaac.

Yahweh multiplied Jacob.

Yahweh redeemed the people from Egypt.

Yahweh gave them His covenant.

Yahweh formed them into a holy nation.

Yahweh created Israel for His glory.

Yahweh declared:

Isaiah 43:21
“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

Christ Himself Extended Grace Beyond Israel

Even during Christ’s earthly ministry, while his work was directed first toward Israel, he gave clear signs that the mercy and blessing of Yahweh God would reach beyond Israel to people of other nations.

Christ did not adopt the racial contempt, national pride, or social barriers common among men. He spoke truthfully and graciously to those whom others regarded as outsiders, and he honored genuine faith wherever it appeared.

Christ and the Samaritan Woman

The Samaritans were despised and avoided by many among the Jews. Yet Christ deliberately passed through Samaria and spoke openly with a Samaritan woman.

John 4:7–10
“There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith unto thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.”

Christ did not conceal the truth concerning worship, nor did he flatter her religious traditions. He taught her that true worship would not be confined to the claims of one earthly location.

John 4:21–24
“Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Christ acknowledged that salvation was proceeding through the covenant purpose entrusted to Israel, yet he also declared that the Father was seeking true worshippers whose worship would be founded upon spirit and truth rather than ancestry or geography.

The woman then spoke of the coming Messiah.

John 4:25–26
“The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”

Christ revealed his identity openly to this Samaritan woman, and through her testimony many in the city came to hear him.

John 4:39–42
“And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
And many more believed because of his own word;
And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”

They recognized him not merely as a teacher belonging to one nation, but as “the Saviour of the world.”

Christ and the Roman Centurion

A Roman centurion came seeking mercy for his servant. Though he was a Gentile and an officer of the occupying Roman power, Christ did not reject his appeal.

Matthew 8:5–10
“And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

Christ then used the centurion’s faith to reveal that people would come from nations far beyond the borders of Israel by faith.

Matthew 8:11–13
“And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.”

The faith of the Gentile centurion was not dismissed because of his nationality. Christ praised it and pointed forward to the gathering of people from east and west into the blessings of the Kingdom.

Christ and the Canaanite Woman

A woman of Canaan also came to Christ pleading for mercy for her daughter.

Matthew 15:21–24
“Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Christ plainly maintained the appointed order of Yahweh’s purpose: the message and ministry were directed first to Israel. Yet the woman continued in humility and faith.

Matthew 15:25–28
“Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.”

She did not claim the covenant position belonging to Israel. She humbly acknowledged the appointed order and trusted that even the overflowing mercy of God was sufficient for her need.

Christ answered her with grace, praised her faith, and healed her daughter.

These encounters foreshadowed the wider calling that would follow Christ’s death and resurrection. The blessing came through Israel and through Israel’s Messiah, but it was never intended to remain confined by race or national border.

Christ Spoke of Other Sheep

Christ also spoke of sheep beyond the immediate fold to whom he had been sent.

John 10:14–16
“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”

The gathering would not produce rival flocks separated by racial pride. Under Christ there would be one flock under one shepherd, gathered according to the purpose of Yahweh God.

The Commission Extended to All Nations

After Christ’s resurrection, the appointed work was no longer confined to the borders of Israel.

Matthew 28:18–20
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Luke 24:46–47
“And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

The order remained clear:

The testimony began at Jerusalem.

It proceeded from the people and promises of Israel.

But it was appointed to reach all nations.

God Caused the Truth to Be Heard by His Holy Spirit

At Pentecost, Yahweh God caused the truth concerning Christ to be heard by His Holy Spirit in the languages of many nations.

The power did not arise from human education, eloquence, or natural ability. God caused His servants to speak, and people from many lands heard the wonderful works of God in their own tongues.

Acts 2:4–6
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.”

Acts 2:8–11
“And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

This was a powerful witness that the truth of God was not confined to one language, one region, or one people.

Yahweh caused His truth to cross every human boundary by His Holy Spirit.

God Sent Philip to the Ethiopian

The widening reach of the Gospel is also shown in the account of the Ethiopian eunuch.

The Philip in this account was Philip the evangelist, one of the seven men selected in Acts chapter 6. He should be distinguished from Philip the apostle.

Philip did not travel to the Ethiopian by human planning alone. Yahweh God directed the encounter, and Philip was guided by God’s Holy Spirit to approach the man’s chariot.

Acts 8:26–29
“And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”

Yahweh God caused Philip to be present at the appointed place and caused the truth concerning Christ to be opened from the Scriptures by His Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:30–35
“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”

The Ethiopian was not required to change his nationality or become culturally identical to Philip. He was taught the truth concerning Christ from the written Word.

Acts 8:36–39
“And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”

A man from Ethiopia heard the Gospel, believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, was baptized, and continued on his journey rejoicing.

No racial partition prevented him.

No national boundary excluded him.

No difference of skin color made him less precious before Yahweh God.

God arranged the meeting, opened the Scriptures, caused the truth concerning Christ to be declared by His Holy Spirit, and sent the Ethiopian home rejoicing.

This account stands as a beautiful witness that the grace of Yahweh God in Christ was reaching outward toward the nations, just as the prophets had foretold.

Isaiah 56:3–5
“Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.”

The Ethiopian eunuch’s joyful reception of the Gospel shows the grace-filled fulfillment beginning to unfold: strangers were being brought near, the excluded were hearing the promise, and people from distant nations were being called through Christ to worship Yahweh God in spirit and in truth.

God Opened the Way to the Gentiles

The account of Cornelius further demonstrates that the opening of the Gospel to the Gentiles was not a human religious innovation.

Peter did not devise it.

The apostles did not originate it.

Yahweh God caused Peter to understand that he must not treat as common or unclean those whom God was calling.

Acts 10:28
“And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”

Acts 10:34–35
“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.”

Peter afterward testified that God Himself had granted repentance unto the Gentiles.

Acts 11:15–18
“And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”

The conclusion was not that men had invented a more inclusive religion.

The conclusion was:

God had granted repentance unto life.

The Middle Wall of Partition Was Broken Down

Through the sacrificial death of Christ, the former wall separating Jew and Gentile was broken down. Those who had once been strangers and far off were brought near through Christ.

Ephesians 2:11–14
“Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.”

Ephesians 2:15–18
“Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.”

This did not erase the promises made to Israel, nor did it abolish God’s covenant purposes.

It opened the way for believing Gentiles to be brought near through Christ and to share in the spiritual blessings flowing from the promise.

The Gentiles Were Grafted Into Israel’s Olive Tree

Paul did not teach that the Gentiles created a new tree of their own, nor that they replaced the root from which the promises came.

Believing Gentiles were grafted into an already-existing olive tree and made partakers of its root and fatness.

Romans 11:17–18
“And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.”

Gentile believers are therefore warned against pride.

They do not bear the root.

The root bears them.

Romans 11:19–21
“Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.”

The calling of the Gentiles gives no Scriptural foundation for contempt toward Israel. Rather, it gives reason for humility, gratitude, and godly fear.

Romans 11:25–29
“For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

Israel remains beloved on account of the fathers, and the gifts and calling of God are not matters of human invention or cancellation.

Neither Race nor Social Standing Gives Superiority in Christ

No race, nationality, social class, or earthly distinction gives one believer greater worth before God.

Galatians 3:26–29
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Colossians 3:10–11
“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.”

These verses do not deny the existence of nations or differences among peoples.

They declare that such distinctions provide no basis for spiritual pride, prejudice, hatred, or superiority within the body of Christ.

One Body, One Hope, and One God

Those called in Christ are joined into one spiritual body under one Head.

Ephesians 4:4–6
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

1 Corinthians 12:12–13
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

Unity in Christ does not come through politics, human philosophy, forced conformity, racial ideology, or worldly institutions.

It comes from Yahweh God through Christ, according to His truth.

God Is Taking Out a People for His Name

The calling from among the nations was understood by the apostles as the work of God in taking out a people for His name.

Acts 15:13–18
“And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.”

God first formed Israel as a people for His name.

During the Gospel Age, He has also visited the Gentiles to take out from among them a people for His name in Christ.

These are not contradictory purposes. They are parts of the one unfolding purpose known unto Yahweh from the beginning.

God Is Gathering a People From Every Nation

The Scriptures reveal a people redeemed from every kindred, tongue, people, and nation.

Revelation 5:9–10
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed them to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

Revelation 7:9–10
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.”

The redeemed are not presented as one earthly race replacing all others.

They are shown as people gathered from every nation, united in worship of Yahweh God and recognition of the Lamb.

The Wisdom From Above Is Without Partiality

Human prejudice, racial pride, hatred, and contempt do not come from the wisdom of God.

James 3:17
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

James 2:8–9
“If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.”

True love does not deny truth.

Neither does truth permit hatred.

The truth of God produces humility, mercy, justice, and love without partiality.

Yahweh’s House Will Be a House of Prayer for All Peoples

The prophets declared that Yahweh’s purpose would reach beyond Israel to include willing people of other nations who joined themselves to Him.

Isaiah 56:6–8
“Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.”

The same Yahweh who gathers the outcasts of Israel also declares that He will gather others.

The gathering of the nations does not require the rejection of Israel.

The restoration of Israel does not require the exclusion of the nations.

Both proceed according to the wisdom, order, and purpose of Yahweh God.

The Final Harmony of the Nations

The purpose of God reaches beyond the present divisions, conflicts, prejudices, and wars of mankind.

Under the righteous rule of Christ, the nations will learn the ways of Yahweh and will no longer be trained for war.

Isaiah 2:2–4
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

The nations do not bring their own conflicting standards to establish peace. They come to be taught the ways of Yahweh.

The law goes forth from Zion.

The Word of Yahweh goes forth from Jerusalem.

Christ judges among the nations according to righteousness.

Then the instruments of war are transformed into instruments of cultivation and life.

Micah 4:3–4
“And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.”

Zephaniah 3:9
“For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.”

Psalm 22:27–28
“All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.”

The Kingdom belongs to Yahweh.

Christ reigns by Yahweh’s appointment.

The nations are taught righteousness.

All willing families of the earth are brought into harmony with the divine will.

Conclusion

The truth is not white, black, brown, eastern, western, rich, poor, educated, or uneducated.

The truth belongs to Yahweh God.

Israel did not create itself.

Yahweh called Abraham.

Yahweh gave the promise.

Yahweh brought forth Isaac.

Yahweh multiplied Jacob.

Yahweh redeemed the people from Egypt.

Yahweh made and established Israel.

Yahweh gave them His covenant.

Yahweh entrusted them with His Word and promises.

Yahweh formed them for His name, praise, and glory.

Through Israel came the fathers and, according to the flesh, the Christ.

Christ did not teach racial pride or national hatred. He spoke graciously to the Samaritan woman, praised the faith of the Roman centurion, answered the humble appeal of the Canaanite woman, and foretold the gathering of other sheep.

Following Christ’s death and resurrection, Yahweh caused the truth to be heard by His Holy Spirit among people from many nations.

God directed Philip to the Ethiopian.

God granted repentance unto life among the Gentiles.

God broke down the partition through Christ.

God grafted believing Gentiles into the blessings rooted in His promises.

God has been taking out from among the nations a people for His name.

Yet none of this permits the Gentiles to boast against Israel, deny Israel’s divine formation, or claim that the covenant purposes of Yahweh arose from human devising.

Neither does Israel’s unique calling provide a foundation for racial pride, self-righteousness, or contempt toward other nations.

All men stand in need of the grace, mercy, and righteousness of Yahweh God in Christ.

Romans 10:12–13
“For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

No matter the shade of the skin, the language of the tongue, the nation of birth, or the station of life, Yahweh is no respecter of persons.

His truth stands above every human division.

His wisdom is without partiality.

His calling is according to His own purpose.

His love does not rejoice in falsehood, pride, or hatred.

His promises cannot be rewritten by men.

His purpose in Christ shall bring blessing, justice, peace, and harmony to all the willing and obedient families of the earth.

Isaiah 43:21
“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.”

Acts 15:14
“Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.”

Revelation 15:4
“Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”

All praise belongs to Yahweh God, who formed Israel for His name, sent His Son for the fulfillment of His purpose, and caused His truth to go forth by His Holy Spirit unto the blessing of all nations through Christ Jesus.
